The surrounding area along the Hofgasteiner Haus provide a unique start to the day: Explorers and nature
lovers will find a landscape of impressive plateaus, exciting interactive stations and hidden crags and rocks which show an entirely different side to the Gasteinertal. When leaving the Schlossalm, you will find an old path
which takes you in the direction of the Rockfeldalm (managed). Sure-footedness and a head for heights are
requirements for the Hermann-Kreilinger-Steig. The thought of the hiker turns to that of homemade bacon,
butter and cheese while gazing over the Alpine pastures and into the distance. For those of which the vision of
a tasty Alpine snack is not sufficient, will most certainly be impressed with the views of the high-altitude pastures on the legendary Mähder and the countless haystacks. Enjoy the cool summer wind on your back and take in the scent of freshly mown hay as you make your way over the lush pastures of the Gadaunerer Hochalmen. Each summer the meadows are blooming, and hikers will have views of the imposing Türchlwand and the Sieben Spitz. The descent towards the Angertal takes the hiker through pine forests, which offer shade on a hot summer’s day and the air is filled with the scent of trees, mushrooms and moss. Once at the bottom you will see the touristic side of the valley, an architectural highlight, and a hotspot in the winter for sports enthusiasts. In summer, the Lackenbauer Alpine guest house offers hikers accommodation for the night. Take a step back into the past. Miners once discovered treasure in the ground around the Erzwies area, although the mining days are long gone.
