From Kitzbühel train station walk around 500 metres parallel to the train track in a southerly direction to the level crossing, and then left to the Hornbahn. Then continue along the access road towards Hagstein. At the hamlet of Going, you branch off to take a steep cart track towards Adlerhütte and Alpengasthaus. The route leads continually through forest, with several bends taking you upwards. Further up you pass clearings, before reaching the Adlerhütte (1 h 15 min from Kitzbühel), and the nearby intermediate station of the Hornbahn. Continue behind the Adlerhütte, going onto a hilly path that soon merges into a forest path. From here, always follow the signs for the Kitzbüheler Horn. The route soon crosses through a grazing area, and then the path goes just slightly uphill beneath the Wilder Hag to the hilly pasture terrain of the Trattalm. Now you have the peak in front of you as you walk along the access road, reaching the Alpenhaus first of all (1 h 15 min from Adlerhütte; mountain station section two). Continue behind that on the access road to the Kitzbüheler Horn, until you reach the entrance to the alpine flower garden. Head across through this, and continue up on the way to the Horngipfelhaus (50 minutes from the Alpenhaus) and the transmitter on the top of the mountain. On the descent, you walk back along the same route up to the branch of the road to St. Johann in Tirol, past the marked cross at the viewing point at around 1,900 metres altitude. Here a path well-secured by rope leads through steep terrain. This is a spectacular section of the route on the northwest side of the Kitzbüheler Horn! Further down, the ground becomes flatter until you go onto a road again underneath the Harschbichlalm. Now either take the short section to the Harschbichlalm pasture (approx. 1 h from the Kitzbüheler Horn) and take the cable car down to the valley, or continue down in the direction of Stanglalm. Beneath the Stanglalm, the route runs through a short section of forest path, before this leads into another hilly section. At the next junction keep to the Müllneralm direction. From there, follow the signs to the Bassgeigeralm and onto the Hirschberg guesthouse and Hochfeldalm. Following the signs leading to Buchwies, the stage leads through the forest to Hilscherpark and the valley station of the Harschbichlbahn in St. Johann in Tirol.
