The unspoiled Kaiserbachtal Valley and the jagged Wilder Kaiser Mountains have been attracting hikers, mountaineers and nature lovers for centuries. In the summer the small side valley, which is part of the Kaisergebirge Nature Preserve, serves as base for countless hiking and rock climbing tours. The impressive mountain range is shrouded in mystery and home to many stories, most of which feature the devil as the main character.
This hike starts at the parking lot in Kaiserbachtal in the hamlet of Griesenau (bus access available). Follow the winter trail into the valley to Fischbachalm, the first inn along the way. The views of the snow-covered peaks are quite stunning. Near the inn is a small chapel, which commemorates mountaineers who died in the Kaiser Range. The hike continues further into the valley and leads past snow-covered cabins to Griesner Alm where you can stop and warm up with a hot beverage. Backtrack the way you came.
