From the “Resort Achensee” walk north for approx. 50 m until you reach the broad forest road leading to the viewing platform “Kaiser-Maximilian-Rast”. Follow the path to the “Köglalm” mountain hut. Keep to the right until you reach the “Kögljochsattel”. From there a steep track climbs to the “Schönjochalm” mountain hut. From the “Schönjochalm” mountain hut Steinberg am Rofan is within approx. one hour walking distance. Follow the route you took on the ascent back to the valley.
