From the top station of the Rofan cable car, walk past the Mauritzalm mountain hut and follow the trail to the Rofanspitze. Turn left and walk past the Grubalacke until you reach the Grubascharte. Walk across the Rofanspitze (detour to the summit possible) until you arrive at the Schafsteigsattel (2,174 metres). The Schafsteig trail descends steeply to the lake Zireiner See and is secured with a steel cable. Walk past the Marchgatterl (signposted E4 - Eagle Walk) alongside the lake towards the Sonnwendjochhaus mountain hut (not serviced). Follow the trail back to the valley to Kramsach until you arrive at the valley station of the former Sonnwendjochbahn. Note: The Sonnwendjoch lift to Kramsach has been taken out of service. Return to Maurach by public transport.
