In 1762, the Ankogel was the first glacier summit and one of the first ever 3.000-ers to be conquered, by a farmer named Patschg hiking up from Anlauftal. In 1826, Archduke John and Baron Herberts also managed to climb the mighty peak. The Ankogel lift in Mallnitz will carry you quickly up to an elevation of 2.626 m, where the tour begins. Initially in the direction of the Radegg Scharte, which you will be able to reach with some easy scrambling, followed by the Kleiner Ankogel (3.096 m). You will then continue through relatively easy terrain to the Grosser Ankogel (3.250 m). The descent will take you along the same route.
