Perched on the Gamskarkogel is one of the oldest refuge huts in Europe built purely for the use of mountaineers. In fact, Archduke John had the hut built in 1828. Setting out from Kötschachtal, you will follow the trail in the direction of the Poserhöhe, then continue over a number of small streams to the Tofernscharte. Crossing lush alpine meadows, you will finally reach the summit at 2,467 meters. A fantastic panoramic view of the surrounding mountains rewards every drop of sweat you spilled during the hike up. You will hike back down into a basin at the Rastötzenalm and finally return to Bad Hofgastein.
