On varied trails and nature-friendly paths, the 110-kilometer premium hiking trail "Murgleiter" winds through the deeply carved Murgtal in the northern Black Forest. The impressive rock gorges, lovely meadows, steep forest slopes, and medieval castle ruins with breathtaking panoramic views provide hikers with a unique experience.

The Murgleiter starts at the Unimog Museum in Gaggenau, passing through the papermaking town of Gernsbach, the historic half-timbered villages of Weisenbach and Forbach, all the way to Baiersbronn, climbing to the 1,055-meter-high Schliffkopf. Hikers can also choose to walk the premium trail in the opposite direction, as it is marked with the Murgleiter diamond symbol in both ways.
What makes the Murgleiter special is that it runs alternately on both sides of the river and connects with many access paths to the S-Bahn. This allows hikers to plan each stage individually and flexibly—there’s no need to bring the car! You also don’t need to worry about the return journey, as the S-Bahn operates every hour (for information, contact the KVV service hotline at 0721/61 07 58 85 or visit www.kvv.de).
