Route: Ehrwald – Valley Gaistal – Scharnitz
This section is set against the breathtaking backdrop of the Zugspitze massif. It’s one of the most beautiful stages on the “Bike Trail Tirol” Route but also considerably harder than the preceding stages. The rugged, picturesque Gaistal valley has to be scaled first via a strenuous ascent before the downhill section, between the Wetterstein massif and the Mieminger mountain range, takes you down towards Leutasch. Between Leutasch and Seefeld there’s another hill to scale before the 40 km tour ends at the gateway to the Karwendel National Park in Scharnitz. Right at the start of this tour, the Ehrwalder Almbahn cable-car takes you up the first 400 metres of altitude saving you the climb up the steep tarmac road. The cable-car takes bikers almost up as far as the saddle. Although considerably longer, it is less steep and you can avoid the hut Ehrwalder Alm and Gaistal valley section.
